Does Pep still have the edge over Arteta?

In this episode of The Athletic FC Podcast, hosts Ayo Akimolere, Adam Crafton, and Art De Roche analyze Manchester City's triumph in the Carabao Cup against Arsenal. They discuss Pep Guardiola's tactical approach, noting that this victory serves as a crucial moment for Guardiola, reaffirming his position and capabilities amidst earlier skepticism about this season's City team. The game demonstrated City's tactical superiority, especially in the second half as they capitalized on Arsenal's indecision, with standout performances from players like Nico O'Reilly, who marked his significance by scoring two goals.

The discussion delves into Arsenal's shortcomings, particularly in managing injuries to key players like Eze, Odegaard, and Timber, which affected their performance. The hosts question Mikel Arteta's choice of goalkeeper, suggesting that the decision to start Kepa instead of David Raya may have been misguided for such an important match. Additionally, they examine the broader title race implications, considering Arsenal's upcoming fixtures against City and reflecting on their mental resilience following the setback.
